You run a backtest on your NinjaTrader 8 strategy and see a perfect equity curve. Then you switch to Sim101, and the results vanish. This gap often stems from Sim101 repainting, where indicators rewrite history to look better than they actually were. Many traders assume their simulation mirrors live execution perfectly. In reality, the speed at which orders fill in simulation can differ significantly from real market conditions if not configured correctly. The difference between a profitable paper strategy and a live loss often comes down to how execution speed and data integrity are modeled during testing. Repainting is when an indicator changes its past signals after the fact. The buy arrow that appears at the exact bottom wasn't there when the candle was forming. This phenomenon creates a false sense of security. When you look at historical charts, the indicator seems to have predicted the move perfectly. However, during live trading or real-time simulation, the signal might not appear until after the move has already happened. According to NinjaTrader support documentation, the Sim101 account behaves identically to a live account regarding cash balance and buying power checks.
