You are staring at a frozen chart while the market moves against you, wondering why your NinjaTrader database optimization isn't working. It is frustrating when your platform lags during critical moments, but the solution often lies in managing how data is stored and retrieved rather than buying new hardware. The core issue with slow market replay speeds is usually the sheer volume of historical data stored in the local database. NinjaTrader 8 stores extensive data in the Documents > NinjaTrader8 > db folder, including tick, minute, and replay data. These files can build up quickly, especially with regular trading sessions, and may slow down the platform significantly. According to CrossTrade Docs, running NT8 for more than 24–48 hours without a restart, carrying a database over 200–500 MB, or accumulating more than 6–12 months of trade history will lower your performance score. Market Replay is a feature that lets you replay every individual tick of historical data to simulate past market movements. It is highly detailed but very resource-intensive because the platform must process a large amount of data for each tick.
